Today, for the first time all year, I was warm in what I was wearing! We have a couple of pretty bad leaks in the windows and my classroom has almost 2 entire walls of windows so it gets chilly pretty fast. I was so very proud of my decision to wear my new sweater and winter boots (so I could change into heels at work)...until the fire alarm went off during 5th period.
Maybe they're trying to prepare us? Maybe they decided it was okay since it was only 25F today? I had some thoughts and words as I trailed behind my 6th graders through the ~6 inches of fresh snow on the playground 50 feet away from the building. In the surprise chaos of the deafening alarm, I decided it wouldn't be fair for me to grab my jacket (which I easily could have) and didn't think about grabbing my boots, so there I stood...ankle-deep in the snow, my pants and shoes soaking up the freezing wetness. I was honestly more concerned about my students because several of them were only wearing 1-2 layers with their uniform shirts.
Thankfully, DJ came to the rescue with his jacket (seeing as he never gets cold), so I ended up huddling with 2 of the girls until it was time to go in...and then promptly kicked off my shoes for a while before changing into my gym clothes!
As it turns out, a kindergartner pulled the fire alarm. Talk about a manic Monday!
